St. Edmond on road for regular-season finale

KINGSLEY — With a second consecutive postseason bid secured, the St. Edmond football team enters the final week of the regular season with plenty of momentum.
The Gaels honored their seniors with a 64-12 victory over Harris-Lake Park inside Dodger Stadium.
Now, they play for the official District 1 runner-up spot here Friday evening vs. Kingsley-Pierson.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
It was a perfect storm for the Gaels against Harris-Lake Park, as they scored 45 points in the first quarter while holding a 58-0 lead at halftime. Grant Galles had four touchdowns, both Jakob Koopman and Aaron Hindt had two TDs, and Ethan Swisher was a perfect 5-for-5 passing.
Hindt ran for 128 yards on just three attempts as part of a 275-yard rushing performance for St. Edmond.
Swisher has thrown for 833 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season, Hindt has 348 yards rushing with five TDs, and Koopman has 26 receptions for 446 yards and seven scores.
Galles has three receiving touchdowns, a rushing TD, two interception returns for scores and two punt returns for touchdowns. Hindt also has four receiving scores and a kickoff return for another.
Max Webster, a senior, made his season debut at center last week. Webster was the starter last year before suffering a knee injury.
“It was great to see Max back out there,” SEHS head coach Matt Dillon said. “He really commands everything for our line by making the blocking calls and it was tough without him in the lineup.
“I really like where we are at as a football team right now on both sides of the ball. We’ve also had some guys like Griffin Laufersweiler, Matthew Crimmins and Thomas Ehn step up and give us added depth for the stretch run.”
Kingsley-Pierson (6-2, 4-1) had its six-game win streak halted by seventh-ranked GTRA last Friday, 62-46. The only other team to defeat the Panthers this year is No. 1 Bishop Garrigan.
Senior Landon Howe is the leader on offense for K-P, as he has completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,238 yards with 19 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Howe also leads the team with 497 yards rushing and seven scores.
“Howe is a heck of an athlete and someone that we have to focus on,” Dillon said. “We have really preached all week to stay in front and try to not allow him to get to that big open space on the field where he can really hurt you.
“They do have some weapons around him, though, and they can really score points in a hurry.”
Tyler Koch has 11 rushing touchdowns on just 35 attempts while adding 389 yards receiving and four more TDs. Easton Nissen is the top target, catching 27 passes for 426 yards and 10 touchdowns.
On defense, the Panthers have recorded 19 sacks, 44.5 tackles for loss and forced 16 turnovers, scoring four touchdowns. Nissen has three interceptions, returning all three for scores.
Koch has returned both a kickoff and a punt back for touchdowns, scoring five two-point conversions.
St. Edmond will find out its postseason destination on Saturday when brackets are released for eight-player by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
