The Iowa Central swim program has made quite the splash on the national scene in recent seasons.
Now, the Triton men and women will have someone new at the helm, as Jody Riskowski has been appointed head coach of both two teams.
A native of Kearney, Neb., Riskowski has experience at the high school, collegiate and national level. She replaces Tom Wyllie, who had previously stepped down from the role.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Riskowski to our athletic department here at Iowa Central,” ICCC athletic director Guy Horn said. “Her philosophy aligns with our values. Coach is going to help continue the strong tradition we have here in our swim program.
“Coach Riskowski will excel with her experience and leadership to help push our student athletes ahead into new level.”
A former competitive swimmer at the University of Wyoming, Riskowski scored several Top-10 school all-time best performances while competing at the NCAA Div. I level. She was the 2003 Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the Year, and a two-time team captain.
Her coaching career started at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in 2003 as an assistant. Riskowski then became a performance enhancement team consultant for USA Diving from 2005-08.
From there, Riskowski was a head coach at Glasgow Calendonian University in Scotland, an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and the head coach at Pius X High School in Lincoln, Neb. Most recently, she served as the head coach at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis.
“I am grateful to represent Iowa Central as the next swimming coach,” she said. “I would like to thank Guy and the athletic staff for this exciting opportunity.
“Iowa Central athletics has such a strong foundation of competing at the highest levels. I am excited to start working with the team to continue to build a foundation for student-athlete success.”
Wyllie led the Tritons to three consecutive third-place finishes at nationals for the men, winning four individual national titles.
“I want to thank Coach Wyllie for everything he has done since joining the Triton in 2022,” Horn said. “He will be here to help us with the transition, and we wish him luck in his future endeavors as we wait in anticipation for the things to come.”
