Jags upset bid falls short
GOWRIE — Southeast Valley had second-ranked (2A) Okoboji on the ropes here Friday night.
The Jaguars (3-3 overall, 1-2 in the district) led 28-14 before the Pioneers (6-0, 3-0) orchestrated a late rally for a 34-31 overtime victory.
With 19 seconds left in regulation, Okoboji quarterback Trey Vander Pol hit Avery Simington with a 53-yard scoring strike to tie the contest.
The Jaguars scored first in overtime on a 33-yard field goal from Spencer Peterson.
The Pioneers sealed the victory with a four-yard score from Rhyker Wright.
Casey Hanson had another big night for the Jaguars, accounting for four touchdowns. Hanson threw a 41-yard score and a one-yard score to Logan Jaeschke.
Colin Johnson had the other touchdown catch from five yards out.
Hanson also had a five-yard scoring run. He finished the night with 29 carries for 115 yards. He was 7-for-11 passing for 77 yards.
Drew Temple had 18 carries for 58 yards. Logan Jaeschke caught six balls for 104 yards and the two scores.
