Garrigan eyes another dome trip

ALGONA — Playing in late October has become the norm for top-ranked Bishop Garrigan.

Another staple for the Golden Bears (8-0 overall) is playing in the UNI-Dome, something they’ve done for the past two seasons.

The Golden Bears reached the semifinals last season, and were the state champions in 2024.

With 23 straight regular season wins, Bishop Garrigan has outscored their opponents 469-52, including three shutouts.

The Golden Bears will host Kingsley-Pierson (6-3) in Algona on Friday in the opening round of the playoffs.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Bishop Garrigan is averaging 58.6 points per contest, while their opponents are at just 7.3 points per game.

Quarterback Tate Foertsch has done it all for the Golden Bears on offense and defense.

Offensively, Foertsch has thrown for 948 yards and 20 touchdowns, while rushing for 593 yards and 10 scores. He has returned two interceptions for touchdowns on defense.

Ethan Marson has been the groundhog, running the ball 84 times for 761 yards and 18 scores. CJ McGregor has five touchdowns, while Carter Cirk has four rushing touchdowns.

Michael Joyce (six touchdowns), Weston Rosemeyer (five), Kyle Bormann (three), Madden Miller (three), Dalton Klenz (two) and Hayden Miller (one) have scoring catches.

With six TD catches, one interception for a touchdown and two kickoff returns for scores, Joyce has also scored in three aspects, as well as a two-point conversion.

The Golden Bears have 20 takeaways. They have picked off 15 passes, and recovered five fumbles. Foertsch has seven interceptions, while Joyce has four picks and one for a score.

East Sac County (3-5) at West Lyon (8-0)

The Raiders finished fourth in Class 1A-2 and will now face top-ranked West Lyon in a 1A opener.

Quarterback Weswton Julin has thrown for 472 yards and four scores. Julin also has 453 yards on the ground and six TDs. Carson Schmitt has eight touchdowns.

For the Wildcats, Easton DeJong has 770 yards throwing and 10 touchdowns. DeJong has five rushing touchdowns. West Lyon has 2,131 rushing yards and 36 scores.

Evan Hildring has 909 on the ground and 14 TDs. Jaxton DeJong (six touchdowns), Daxtyn Metzger has four to lead the Wildcats.

Hinton (5-3) at Emmetsburg (6-2)

After a runner-up showing in Class 1A, District 2, the E-Hawks will host Hinton.

Emmetsburg has rushed for 2,316 yards and 27 scores. Bradyen Yates has run for 1,057 yards and 12 scores, while Tyce Jenness has 537 and 10 scores. Brennan Hasbrouck also has five touchdowns.

For Hinton, Cole Friesen has 618 yards and nine scores. He has also ran for 1,014 yards and nine touchdowns.

Humboldt (4-4, 2-2) at No. 5 Sioux Center (7-1, 3-1)

The Wildcats still have a shot at the playoffs with some help.

If the Wildcats beat Sioux Center and Webster City loses to MOC-Floyd Valley, Humboldt will be runner-up in the district.

If Webster City wins by 17, Humboldt has to win by 12 or more to advance.

Jackson Flaherty has a combined 16 touchdowns. He has thrown for 1,143 yards and 11 touchdowns, and he has five more scores on the ground.

Cash McIntire has 701 rushing yards and nine TDs.

Chase Flaherty has 513 yards and five scores catching, while Valley Davis has 238 and three trips to the end zone.

For Sioux Center, Ezra Hibman has 1,184 yards and 16 touchdowns and has five on the ground. Cody Sandbulte has 563 on the ground and seven touchdowns.

Joseph Molina has six touchdown catches.

South Central Calhoun (4-4) at Underwood (6-2)

The Titans picked up a 26-15 win over Pocahontas Area last week to cement their playoff spot.

South Central Calhoun has had a balanced scoring attack, with 982 through the air and 1,365 on the ground.

Cooper Nattress (351) and Luke Patterson (339) are the leaders with 10 and three touchdowns, respectively. Coltley Timmerman has three scores.

Cade Higgins has thrown for 964 yards and five touchdowns.

Garrett Luett has been the leader for the Eagles, throwing for 1,716 yards and 17 TDs. Luett has also ran for 572 and eight scores.

On the ground, Charlie Myers and River Allen have five touchdowns each.

North Union (4-3) at GTRA (8-0)

In its first season of eight-player action, North Union has reached the playoffs.

The Warriors enter the playoffs, winning their last two contests, beating Northwood-Kensett 58-0 and West Bend-Mallard 48-12.

Greyson Colegrove has thrown for 648 yards and nine touchdowns, and has rushed for nine more scores.

Draven Keeler (932 yards) has 15 TDs.

GTRA quarterback Teagan Hanson has thrown for 2,201 yards and 33 touchdowns. Hanson also has five rushing touchdowns. Caleb Swedin has 11 rushing touchdowns.

Jaxson Schnell has 809 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, while Kenny Ness has 636 and 11 scores. Sweden has eight scoring catches.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (5-3) at Waterloo Columbus (5-3)

The Cowboys ended the season with a 43-7 win over Garner-Hayfield-Ventura.

Joel Meier has 819 on the ground with 11 scores. Selvin Gonzalez has 749 yards and nine TDs. Colin Sesker has four rushing touchdowns.

For Columbus, Amani Robinson has 914 yards passing and 12 scores. He has also ran for two scores. Drew Schultz has 413 yards on the ground, with five trips to the end zone.
