Fort Dodge splits on the road in volleyball

DES MOINES — After picking up a lopsided win against Des Moines Hoover on Tuesday, the Fort Dodge volleyball squad was caught from behind on Thursday at Des Moines East.

The Dodgers (3-15 overall) swept the Huskies by scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-5.

“It’s always nice to get a win on the road, and to hold them to five points in the third set was great to see,” FDSH head coach Beth Wilder said. “We are focused on our efficiency right now, and building our stamina as we go on the road more this month.

“It’s going to take a big team effort to keep winning away from home this month, but we’re ready for the challenge.”

In the sweep of Hoover, senior Maeleena Meyer had nine kills to lead a balanced offensive effort. Senior LJ Maehl (eight) and sophomore Adyson Friesth (six) were right behind.

Junior Hope Alstott contributed 10 digs. Meyer tallied a pair of blocks.

Alstott and freshman Holly Schaffer were perfect at the service line, and junior Ellie Doster recorded five ace serves.

The Dodgers kept momentum in their corner early last night against the Scarlets, going up 25-22 and 25-14. East (9-7) mounted a big comeback, though, taking the final three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 15-11 to prevail at home.

Fort Dodge is back in action on Tuesday at Ames.

Starting at $4.94/week.
