Bishop Garrigan’s march set to continue in 8-player

ALGONA — Top-ranked Bishop Garrigan already knows how to play inside a dome, and they want to keep figuring out how to get better on the UNI-Dome turf.
In only their fifth season of eight-player football, head coach Marty Waddle has led the Golden Bears (9-0 overall) to three straight winning seasons and a mark of 38-13, going 32-2 in the last three years combined.
In second-round playoff action, the Golden Bears will meet eight-player rookie North Union (5-3).
Action is set for 7 p.m. on Friday in Algona.
The Golden Bears are coming off a 57-12 opening-round win over Kingsley-Pierson. Garrigan ran for 435 yards.
Ethan Marso had 141 yards and three touchdowns, while CJ McGregor had 131 and two scores. Quarterback Tate Foertsch had one rushing touchdown and one passing score.
Jerad Graves also hit paydirt on the ground. Michael Joyce had the receiving TD.
The Warriors pulled off an early upset, handing unbeaten GTRA their first loss.
Draven Keeler was a beast on the ground, toting the ball 37 times for 272 yards, and four touchdowns with a long of 71. Greyson Colegrove ran for 98 and three touchdowns.
Colegrove threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Hoye.
This season, Foertsch has thrown for 1,021 yards and 10 touchdowns, with only one interception on 81 attempts.
Foertsch also has 652 yards on the ground and 11 scores. Marso has run for 902 yards and 21 touchdowns.
McGregor has seven scores. Carter Cirks has four.
Joyce has seven TD catches, while Weston Rosemeyer has five, Kyle Bormann and Madden Miller have two each.
The Golden Bears have 24 takeaways. Foertsch has recorded eight interceptions and has returned two for scores. Joyce has five and one touchdown.
Joyce also has two kickoff returns for TDs.
Keeler has been a menace on the ground, carrying the ball 168 times for 1,204 yards and 19 touchdowns. Colegrove has 12 touchdowns, while throwing for 10 on 696 yards.
The two squads met in Week 6, with the Golden Bears earning a 54-7 victory. Garrigan ran for 231 yards and Foertsch threw for 222 and four touchdowns.
Foertsch also had two running TDs. Marso went for 106 and two scores. Rosenmeyer caught four balls for 131 yards and two trips to the end zone.
Joyce and Dalton Klenz had a touchdown catch each.
Garrigan held the Warriors to 130 yards of total offense. North Union’s Carson Crouch had the lone Warrior touchdown on a 72-yard kickoff return for a score.
