It was a trophy-winning day for Iowa Central golf here Monday as they hosted a fall kickoff at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

The Triton women swept both team and individual gold, while the men picked up the individual title after Southeast won the crown on the tiebreaker.

Syed Laiba Shah shot a 4-over to win by seven strokes over Audrey Overgaard of North Iowa Area and claim the women’s gold. Teammates Azul Orantes and Victoria Verstichel tied for third while Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Braxtyn Dencklau tied for 12th overall.

Shah had three birdies: on the par-5 No. 7 along with No. 14 and No. 18 on the back, which are both par-4s. She also carded nine pars, shooting a 1-under 35 on the backside of the course.

Dencklau finished strong, recording a birdie on No. 18 to go with a pair of par holes on the final nine.

“Thrilled with the total day from the ladies,” ICCC head coach Kris Graewin said. “They went out and executed when we needed to and were able to put together a good round. Laiba has been playing really well lately and it was fun to see her have some great success.

“Great day overall. Any time you can get a victory with the team and individuals its a great day. We’ve known Francis (Lockwood) had a round like that in him and we were just waiting for it to happen. He would be the first one to tell you it should have been better too.”

Iowa Central bested NIACC by 22 strokes for the team title followed by Southeast, Clarke and Hawkeye. They were also team champions earlier this year at the War at the Moor in Creston.

Lockwood was the only golfer in red, as he shot a 1-under to capture the men’s title. Lockwood bested NIACC’s Heath Voigt and Nick Fleming from Southeast by two strokes.

Logan Fogarty tied for seventh and Filip Jarheden finished in a tie for ninth.

Lockwood had a 3-under 32 on the front, highlighted by three birdies. He had seven pars in his first 10 holes to go with the trio of birdies, finishing with two more birdies on the back.

Both teams are right back in action, as they head to Mason City and Highland Park Golf Course on Tuesday for the NIACC Fall Invitational.

Starting at $4.94/week.
