Sweep for Tritons in volleyball

SIOUX CITY — The ninth-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team capped off the week with a sweep over Labette and Highland here on Friday.

After starting the year with three ranked matchups in their first four dates, the Tritons have reeled off three consecutive victories to get back to 3-4 on the early season.

Iowa Central swept Labette by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-23 before besting Highland in four sets (25-22, 20-25, 25-23 and 25-17).

Talya Sampson had 16 kills and 14 digs, Shirley Monaghan had 12 kills and seven digs, and former Fort Dodge Senior High standout Meah McCaleb tallied 16 digs vs. Labette.

Anabel Seaman had 36 assists, while Taylor Reimer added seven kills and Dena Robb tallied six. Devon Rodewald had two aces.

“It was a lot of fun this week to see the improvements from the opening week,” ICCC head coach Sara Horn said. “The players have been working really hard to improve the areas of our game that we thought we struggled in during our open weekend tournament.

“Playing those ranked teams was a great eye-opener for some of our players to see how high of a level we have to maintain to be ranked in the Top-10.”

Sampson had 16 kills, Monaghan 14, Reimer eight and Robb six vs. Highland, with McCaleb adding 18 digs and Seaman 41 assists. Sampson also had three aces.

Next action for the Tritons will be on Wednesday when they host Ellsworth inside Hodges Fieldhouse in ICCAC play at 7 p.m.

Starting at $4.94/week.
