The ninth-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team continued their winning ways here on Wednesday night ahead of a big weekend of road action.

In an ICCAC matchup with No. 25 Central-Columbus, the Tritons landed a four-set victory, stretching their win streak to 11 straight.

Scores were 25-23, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-14.

“We didn’t play our cleanest match of the year, but we found different ways to win against a ranked team,” ICCC head coach Sara Horn said. “Different people stepped up at different times, and that’s what you need to do against strong opponents.”

Talya Sampson recorded a team-high 22 kills and led the way with 21 digs, Cooper Griffin had 13 kills and Shirley Monaghan had 10. Anabel Seaman picked up 47 assists.

“Anabel did a good job spreading the offense around and finding the hot hitter in different situations,” Horn said.

Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Meah McCaleb chipped in 13 digs with five service aces and three assists. Addi Hindt (Southeast Valley) had five block assists, two kills and a solo block, and Dena Robb recorded seven kills.

After two back-and-forth sets left the scoreboard tied at one set all, it was Iowa Central (11-4 overall, 5-0 in the league) that found its rhythm first and gained all the momentum needed.

The Tritons have dropped just three sets in five ICCAC matchups this season. They are a perfect 7-0 in action inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

“It was great to get a win going into a tough weekend,” Horn said. “This should give us some confidence moving forward.”

Up next for Iowa Central will be Friday and Saturday action in Kansas City, Kan., where they will face No. 2 Kansas City-Kansas, Allen County, Labette and top-rated Cowley County. Allen County just dropped out of the Top-25 this past week.

Kansas City-Kansas and Cowley County will be the seventh and eighth opponents currently ranked for Iowa Central this season, as they have also squared off with No. 4 Heartland, seventh-ranked Gulf Coast State, No. 8 Pensacola State, 17th-ranked Lurleen B. Wallace and No. 20 Madison College.

The Tritons picked up a sweep over Labette earlier this year in Sioux City.

Starting at $4.94/week.
