Perfect week for Tritons
CEDAR RAPIDS — The ninth-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team capped off a perfect week with two more wins here Saturday at a tournament hosted by Kirkwood.
After sweeping through No. 17 Neosho County and East Central on Friday in Boone, the Tritons bested 11th-ranked Sauk Valley and Prairie State to stretch their win streak to five in a row.
In the win over Sauk Valley, Iowa Central (18-6 overall) recovered to take the fifth game, 20-18, after seeing a 2-0 set lead evaporate. Talya Sampson tallied 24 kills, Shirley Monaghan had 16 and Cooper Griffin 10.
Meah McCaleb (Fort Dodge Senior High) had 24 digs, Sampson recorded 21 and Monaghan, 16. Addi Hindt (Southeast Valley) added eight kills and two block assists.
Anabel Seaman dished out 59 assists and had three service aces.
“This weekend was another great chance to play some ranked opponents,” ICCC head coach Sara Horn said. “We’ve had 10 matches over the last two weeks, and we could definitely see some exhaustion setting in.
“We did a great job of staying super clean and really controlling that Neosho match from start to finish. We started really strong vs Sauk Valley and our girls dug deep in set five to find a way to win.”
The match with Prairie State was a strong one, as the Tritons were able to get several players on the court. Griffin had 12 kills, Ava Paige dished out 16 assists, and McCaleb had nine digs. Hindt added four kills. Kyla Egli (Manson Northwest Webster) had two service aces.
Iowa Central returns home to face 13th-ranked Des Moines Area on Tuesday at Hodges Fieldhouse.
