WEBSTER CITY — Brynn Malo has chased an individual title at the Webster City Invitational for the past three seasons.

In her final chance on Tuesday, she grabbed gold.

After a Top-20 and two Top-10 finishes in her career at The Links Golf Course, Malo crossed the tape first to win the Purple division crown.

Malo, who was fifth as a junior, eighth as a sophomore and 19th her freshman year, crossed the tape in 19:37.47.

The Wildcats saw three runners place in the Top-4, as Aubry Fisher (20:07.2) and Avery Fisher (20:08.06) were third and fourth, respectively.

Humboldt (52) was third in a tight team race on the Purple side. Gilbert (43) was the champion, followed by Ballard (47). Nevada (92) was fourth and Webster City (123) fifth.

Lynx runner Izzy Grossoehme (22:16.92) led her squad in 14th.

Fort Dodge sophomore Linnie Pratt crossed the tape 15th with a time of 22:19.18.

“Linnie did a great job and went out and ran a smart race,” said FDSH head coach Joe Jackson. “She didn’t go out too quickly, which allowed her to pick off girls in the second mile.

“I think she passed 14 girls in the race.”

Saiya Noborikawa (24:08.54) was 23rd for the Dodgers, Laila Grantham (24:26.02) placed 25th and Madison Carmody (26:08.23) took 30th in the Purple division.

“Saiya and Laila were right there with each other,” Jackson said. “Madison ran well. All girls had (season) PRs.”

In the gold division, it was Algona’s Mara Davis (21:18.23) who came away with the individual crown.

For the second straight meet, St. Edmond earned a runner-up showing. The Gaels (73) finished second behind champ Roland-Story (38) in the Gold bracket.

“I think the theme for us was we competed,” said SEHS head coach Mike Szalat. “We pushed hard and each other. You can’t coach that.”

St. Edmond placed two girls in the Top-10. Sophomore Naomi Valles (22:55.37) took the seventh spot. Freshman Grace Schlegel (23:16.83) was ninth.

“Naomi really bounced back after she was disappointed in herself last week (in Gowrie). We weren’t, but she was,” Szalat said. “Naomi and Anthony (Valles, her brother) train so hard, they need to take it easy sometimes, which she did on Friday.

“Grace wasn’t far behind her.”

Manson Northwest Webster (96) was third and Algona fourth (117). Southeast Valley (172) took seventh and Eagle Grove (202) ended up ninth.

Lily Eslick (24:01.35) was 16th for the Gaels, followed by Alex Leiting (23:38.78) and Greenlee Crimmins (24:58.78), who were 20th and 21st, respectively. Betsy Gruver (25:34.07) was 23rd for St. Edmond, and Adelyn Bangert (27:33.52) crossed in 35th.

Manson Northwest Webster got an eighth place showing from senior Raygin Anderson (22:55.92). Kate Hildreth (23:55.61) was 14th and teammate Hayden Oswald (24:17.01) earned 18th.

Algona’s Chelsy Vicente-Gomez (23:47.85) took the 12th position.

Eagle Grove’s Myka Anderson (23:55.24) placed 13th. Southeast Valley’s top finish came from Katie Field (25:29.23).

Fort Dodge is back in action next Thursday when they travel to Marshalltown.

St. Edmond will run on Sept. 13 at Ridge View for the CYO meet.

Starting at $4.94/week.
