Luka Vasiljevic recorded a brace and the Iowa Central men’s soccer team snapped a two-match losing skid with a 4-2 victory over Hawkeye here Wednesday evening.

Vasiljevic had two goals to lead the way for the Tritons (7-2 overall, 1-1 in ICCAC), as leading scorer Vito Salvatore Callaci and Shayer Gayadien each added one.

“This was a very good win for us,” ICCC head coach Pablo Rodriguez said. “We struggled a bit in the second half, but we were still able to come out with the victory.”

For Vasiljevic, the goals were his third and fourth of the season. Callaci, who returned to the pitch, now has six goals while Gayadien came off the bench to tally his first.

“Luka was huge with the two goals,” Rodriguez said. “Getting Vito back helped a lot and Shayer was part of the guys who came in and didn’t let the level drop off. We’ve been giving more and more guys more and more time and they have maintained a high-degree of play.

“I’m just very, very happy with this win, because any win in this region is a good one. It’s the toughest region out there.”

The Tritons entered the match off a 4-0 loss to No. 2 Northeast. They now set their sights on sixth-rated Western Iowa Tech back here on Saturday at 3 p.m.

“We’re looking forward to competing against another very, very good team,” Rodriguez said. “It’s easy to see why Region 11 is the best in the country (with Iowa Lakes also ranked fifth).”
