Humboldt captures own invite title

HUMBOLDT — The seventh-ranked (Class 3A) Humboldt volleyball team claimed top honors at its own invitational here last Saturday.

In the marquee matchup of the event, the Wildcats (7-1 overall) took down No. 2 (3A) Carroll Kuemper in a thrilling three-setter. Scores were 21-19, 18-21 and 16-14 in favor of Humboldt.

The Wildcats also swept Emmetsburg, Fort Dodge and South Hardin during the day, winning four of the six sets by allowing fewer than 10 points.

Against the E-Hawks, Mia Schluter recorded six kills for Humboldt. Adelynn Goodell had six digs and four ace serves, hitting on all 17 attempts. Addie Waldorf and Kendall Works contributed three aces each and were both perfect from the service line as well.

Waldorf dished out 17 assists.

In the win over Fort Dodge, Waldorf finished with 10 assists and four kills offensively. Dodd and Schluter added three kills each.

Grace Johnson and Waldorf both had four digs. Jazzie Dodd tallied five ace serves.

Dodd and Claire Deileman were 11 of 12 at the service line.

The Dodgers, who went 0-4 on the day, will get a chance to avenge the loss to the Wildcats when they host them on Sept. 16. First, FDSH welcomes Mason City this Tuesday in Iowa Alliance Conference North play.

Humboldt returns to action on Thursday when they host Algona in league action.
