Gaels pick up road victory
CLARION — The St. Edmond volleyball team earned a second consecutive North Central Conference road victory here on Thursday, topping Clarion-Goldfield/Dows.
Scores were 21-25, 27-25, 25-18 and 25-15.
Eden Horn recorded 11 kills, Ava Underberg had 10 and both Chloe Palmer and Faith Shirbroun contributed eight. Shirbroun also tallied five of the 13 aces for the Gaels (6-4 overall, 2-1 in the NCC).
“Clarion-Goldfield/Dows was a really scrappy team and we had several good hits that they covered,” SEHS head coach Heather Seeden said. “Our girls did the best job of passing that they have all season.
“We have been hitting that hard in practice this past week and it was nice to see it show up.”
Underberg finished with six blocks, and Abby Huss tallied 33 assists.
“Anna (Lursen) made some key plays for us when we needed it most, taking some big swings,” Seeden said. “Our defense works hard for us every night on the floor and continued to do that.
“Ella (Vandi) is working her tail off for us. She doesn’t always get the glamorous stat line but is a huge part of our success. Ella and Ava (Andrew) did a good job passing. Rihanna Myers got in at the end of fourth set and made two big defensive plays that kept us rolling to finish off the night.”
The Gaels head to the CYO in Le Mars this Saturday, starting off with Le Mars Gehlen at 9 a.m.
