Full slate of district games for all area grid squads
District play is under way across all classes on Friday.
Class 3A, 4A and 5A join the ranks this week, and it’s all league action the rest of the way.
The top-three squads in Class 3A, District 1 have a combined record of 13-3, with Sioux Center unbeaten in four games.
Those four squads will open district action against each other, as Sioux Center will host Bishop Heelan (3-1) and Algona (3-1) travels to MOC-Floyd Valley.
Coming off a big win last week, fellow District 1 member Humboldt (2-2) will entertain Webster City (1-3).
After winning their district opener, Southeast Valley (3-1) will now host top-ranked and unbeaten Carroll Kuemper.
Manson Northwest Webster (2-2) will have area foe Pocahontas Area (1-3) in a A-2 matchup.
Ninth-ranked Emmetsburg (3-1) travels to South Central Calhoun (2-2).
Clarion-Goldfield/Dows (3-1) will have a tough task in top-ranked and unbeaten Grundy Center (4-0).
Webster City (1-3, 0-0) at Humboldt (2-2, 0-0)
Humboldt halted a two-game losing streak last week, while Webster City dropped its third straight contest. The Wildcats knocked off Ballard (45-7), while the Lynx fell to ranked and unbeaten Gilbert (34-21).
Wildcat quarterback Jackson Flaherty had a career night, going 14-for-18 for 228 yards and five touchdowns.
He connected with Valley Davis four times — three for touchdowns — and 96 yards, while also hitting Jaxson Kirchhoff for two scores.
Cash McIntire had a strong night on the ground, with 178 yards and a 98-yard touchdown run.
The Lynx had two backs go over 100 yards and another 14 yards shy in the Homecoming setback. Kaleb Hansen had 111 and a 57-yard TD jaunt, while Jaxon Griffith had 110. Aidan Hrnicek added 86 yards, including a 43-yard trip to the end zone.
Hrnicek has four touchdowns this season, while Hansen has three and Griffith two.
For Humboldt, Flaherty has 680 yards passing and eight scores, while Davis has three TDs, two for Kirchhoff and two for Jackson’s twin brother, Chase Flaherty.
McIntire has 350 yards on the ground and six trips to paydirt.
Algona (3-1, 0-0) at MOC-Floyd Valley (3-1, 0-0)
The Bulldogs have now won two straight, while the Dutchmen suffered their first loss of the season to Le Mars (20-0).
Last week, Algona toppled Waverly-Shell Rock, 28-7. Nathan Manske threw for 99 yards and two scores. He connected for a 29-yard TD to William Weichert and a 26-yard touchdown strike to Tate Garman.
On the ground, Weichert had 88 yards and one-yard scoring plunge. Manske ran for 82 yards.
Manske is 33-for-50 on the season for 495 yards and five touchdowns. He has run for 305 yard as well, with five going for scores.
Weichert has 437 on the ground and four TDs. Garman has three touchdown grabs, while Taevyn Zinnel, Evan Allie, Weichert and Micah Kitzinger all have one each.
The Dutchmen are led by a punishing ground game, paced by Dylan Massdam. Maasdam has carried the ball 85 times for 703 yards and four TDs.
Quarterback Carson Carmichael has six rushing touchdowns and two through the air.
No. 1 Carroll Kuemper (4-0, 1-0) at Southeast Valley (3-1, 1-0)
The top-ranked Knights knocked off OABCIG (43-22) last week, while the Jaguars won their second straight by dominating Estherville-Lincoln Central (40-13).
Southeast Valley quarterback Mason Bahr was 6-for-10 passing for 116 yards and two scores. Casey Hanson, part of the dual-threat scheme at QB, was 5-for-6 for 59 and two TD strikes.
Logan Jaeschke had four grabs for 81 yards and two scores, with a long of 61. Colin Johnson had a 28-yard trip to the end zone.
Hanson ran for 117 yards and a seven-yard score, while Bahr had 64 yards and an 11-yard touchdown.
Bahr (527 yards) and Hanson (220) have combined for 747 yards through the air. Bahr has nine TD passes, while Hanson has four.
Jaeschke and Bryce Harrison have been their main targets, with 17 grabs each. Harrison has 317 yards and four scores, while Jaeschke has 176 and six TDs. Johnson has two scoring receptions as well.
Hanson has been the Jaguars’ groundhog, running for 351 and six scores. Bahr and Drew Temple have two touchdowns each.
Kuemper quarterback Brock Baading has thrown for 1,076 yards on 72 of 102 passing. He has 15 touchdowns.
Baading has connected with five different receivers. Both Griffin Glynn (295) and Braxton Vonnahme (236) have four touchdowns. Brayton Alford (328) and Ryan Lucas (140) have three end zone trips.
Hoffman has rushed for 514 yards and seven scores.
Manson Northwest Webster (2-2, 1-0) at Pocahontas Area (1-3, 0-1)
The Cougars have won two straight, while the Indians have dropped two in a row. The Cougars beat East Sac County (41-19) last Friday, while Pocahontas Area was edged by ranked Emmetsburg, 28-21.
For MNW, Isaiah Daggett was 6-for-8 passing last week for 166 yards and a 69-yard touchdown to Jack Hoeppner. Coy Moline had 120 yards on the ground and a score.
Charlie Sturgis had two touchdowns, while Dawson Marine and Tegan Thoma had TDs as well.
Against the E-Hawks, PAC sophomore Blake Bunda threw for 187 yards and a score. Logan Shiflett had a 66-yard touchdown.
Christian Valenzuela had a 22-yard scoring grab. Karson Welander returned a kickoff 91 yards to paydirt.
On the year, Moline has 489 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. Sturgis has two TDs, while Marine, Jackson McGuire and Thoma have one each.
Bunda has thrown for 595 and four scores for the Indians. Welander has two scores, while Valenzuela and Collin Dreith have one each.
No. 9 Emmetsburg (3-1, 1-0) at South Central Calhoun (2-2, 1-0)
The Titans ended a two-game slide last Friday with a 35-14 win over South Hamilton. The E-Hawks broke back into the win column with a triumph over Pocahontas Area.
South Central Calhoun’s Cade Higgins threw for 176 yards and a score in the win over South Hamilton, while Cooper Nattress had 67 yards on the ground and three scores. Higgins also had a TD.
In Emmetsburg’s win, Bradyen Yates had 193 yards and a 75-yard touchdown. Brennan Hasbrouck ran for 97 yards and a score.
Quarterback Tyce Jenness was 2-for-3 passing for two touchdowns, connecting with Ryan Wirtz (22 yards) and Krayton Rutledge (seven).
Jenness has two throwing touchdowns and seven rushing TDs. Yates has ran for 626 yards on 104 carries and five touchdowns.
For the Titans, Nattress has six scores. Coltley Timmerman, Luke Patterson, Higgins, and Brayden Werneburg have all found the end zone once.
No. 1 Grundy Center (4-0, 1-0) at Clarion-Goldfield/Dows (3-1, 1-0)
The Spartans, who have won three straight state championships, have demolished their first four opponents, out-scoring them, 160-34. They’re coming off a 49-7 win over Garner-Hayfield/Ventura.
The Cowboys have now won two straight, beating Central Springs last week, 33-0. Selvin Gonzalez ran for 146 and two scores, while Joel Meier had two TDs as well. Kolton Heftl had a 26-yard touchdown strike to Huxley Lingerfelter, who had 91 receiving yards on the night.
Through four contests, Meier (479 yards) and Gonzalez (451) have been the groundhogs with seven and four touchdowns, respectively.
Colin Sesker has 144 yards and two TDs, and Charlie Campbell has two scores as well.
The Spartans, who have the fifth longest high school win streak in the nation at 43 straight, have thrown for 525 yards and ran for 741.
Judd Jirovsky has 493 passing yards and five TDs. Pete Lebo has run for six scores, while Hayden Geerdes (four), Jirovsky (three) and Cooper Keller (two) are their lead backs.
