The Fort Dodge swim team picked up two individual victories in their season opener on Tuesday.
Marshalltown came away with the dual victory, winning 129-37.
The Dodgers’ 200 medley relay of Nora O’Connor, Karlee Pearson, Gracie Harvey and Teagan Loots came away with gold in a time of 2:05.89.
“It was awesome to come out and win the first event of the season and the night,” said FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont. “We had to recreate the entire event, with Gracie being the only one back.”
Pearson was the lone individual winner, placing first in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:18.78.
“Karlee looked awesome in that race,” Beaumont said. “She started pulling away from the start. Last year she was overshadowed by our (senior state) swimmers, but (Tuesday), she was able to show how hard she has been working in the offseason.”
Harvey had a runner up showing in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:09.01. She was also third in the 50 freestyle (28.02).
Pearson had a bronze showing in the 100 freestyle (1:00.39). O’Connor was third in the 100 backstroke (1:17.02).
The 200 freestyle relay team of Aubrey Alstott, Iris McAtee, Janelle Chada and Adelyn Meyer took third in a time of 2:49.86.
“We saw some time drops from our (preseason scrimmage),” Beaumont said. “Morgan Townsend had a 20-second improvement, and Aubrey had some time drops.
“For our younger girls, it’s about (personal records) and pushing our conditioning.”
Breanna Kalvig won two events for the Fort Dodge junior varsity. Kalvig captured the 50 freestyle (1:33.5) and the 100 freestyle (1:22).
The Dodgers are back in action on Saturday when they swim at the Mason City Invitational at 1:30 p.m.
