Dodgers compete at Mason City

MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge girls swim team competed here Saturday in the Mason City Invitational.

Waukee captured gold with 632 points, followed by Decorah, Boone, Spencer, the host Riverhawks, Algona and the Dodgers.

For Fort Dodge, Karlee Pearson had the top finish, as the junior claimed bronze in the 100 breaststroke. Pearson posted a time of 1:15.29, as Algona’s Ella Welp won the race the race in 1:12.85. Welp was also first in the 50 free for the Bulldogs.

Pearson added a seventh in the 50 freestyle, posting a time of 27.25.

Gracie Harvey was fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.11 and finished eighth in the 50 freestyle in 27.30. Nora O’Connor had a pair of ninth place finishes in the 100 freestyle (1:04.50) and 100 backstroke (1:14.56).

Fort Dodge’s 200 freestyle relay of Harvey, O’Connor, Teagan Loots and Pearson clocked a 1:53.99 to place fifth.

“We had a great day with more amazing time drops,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “Gracie had great time drops in her 50 free and 100 fly. Both were times we saw towards the end of the season last year.

“Karlee dropped three seconds from (last) Tuesday. She looked incredible, but still wants more from that race (the 100 breaststroke). Nora and Teagan had huge time drops in the 100 free. With times like this, we are able to look at more options come state.”

Algona’s Reese Taylor won the diving portion of the meet.

Fort Dodge heads to Des Moines Roosevelt on Tuesday before hosting Algona and Sioux City West Thursday.

Starting at $4.94/week.
