WEBSTER CITY — The Webster City volleyball team overcame some adversity to secure a key North Central Conference match in five sets over St. Edmond here on Thursday night.
Scores were 25-10, 25-20, 24-26, 25-27 and 15-7.
Jaylyn Bahrenfuss suffered an injury at the end of the opening set, forcing Lynx head coach Jess Howard to adjust her rotation. After some initial struggles, they found their rhythm, earning a third consecutive win.
“We got out to a fast start and played really well, setting the tone early,” Howard said. “Jaylyn got hurt and it just took us some time to get adjusted.
“By the fifth set, we started to adjust and understand each other and where we needed to be, and the girls came through.”
Tristyn Wright led the way for Webster City (10-8 overall, 2-2 in the league) with 15 kills. Evie Davis added 10.
Kaitlyn Winkler finished with six kills, Avery Poppen had five, and both Lovie Pruismann and Ashlee Nydegger each tallied four.
Alivia Burns, Pruismann, Morgan Hackbarth, Bahrenfuss, Poppen and Nydegger were all 100 percent serving. Bahrenfuss and Poppen both had two aces.
“It was nice to get the win,” Howard said. “We showed good composure battling back and didn’t let what happened in the third or fourth bother us.”
Pruismann dished out 35 assists and recorded 10 digs, Hackbarth contributed 36 digs, Wright had 18 and Janey Putney 12. Davis also finished with nine blocks, as Poppen and Nydegger each contributed four.
Earlier this year, Webster City earned a two-set win over the Gaels during action at the St. Edmond Invitational by scores of 22-20 and 21-17.
St. Edmond (6-10, 2-2) has dropped six in a row and returns to action on Thursday when they host Algona.
The Lynx play Iowa Falls-Alden that same night.
