Weichert goes for 224 for Bulldogs

SPIRIT LAKE — Defending Class 2A runner-up Spirit Lake had no answer for Algona’s Will Weichert.

Weichert went over 200 yards as the Bulldogs (1-0 overall) earned a 33-20 victory on Friday.

Weichert carried the ball 24 times for 224 yards and one touchdown.

Quarterback Nathan Manske was 9-for-12 for 121 yards and two passing TDs, connecting with Evan Allie and Taevyn Zinnel for scores.

Allie had six catches for 92 yards.

Cael Rotert had two interceptions and returned one for a score.
