Royce Pederson and Rylan Kingrey capped off their Fort Dodge baseball careers with one final honor.
The pair of Dodger seniors were both named all-state by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Pederson made the Class 4A first team and Kingrey was placed on the third as the two helped Fort Dodge to 26 wins this past summer — the most for the program since 2012.
In 40 games, Pederson hit .425 with three home runs, seven doubles and a triple, driving in 55 runs and scoring 27 times. He drew 26 walks and was hit by 10 pitches, adding 12 steals and recording a .978 fielding percentage.
Pederson ranked third in the state with his RBI total. He will play for Iowa Central in the fall, where is father and current FDSH assistant coach, Rick Pederson, previously served as the head coach.
“This honor means a lot to me,” Pederson said. “I see it as a reflection of all the time I spent practicing. Seeing my hard work pay off is an amazing feeling that can’t be put into words.
“It’s an amazing accomplishment to finish out my high school career with.”
For his career, Pederson played in 112 games, recording 81 RBI, 79 hits, 49 runs scored, 22 extra-base hits and 16 steals.
Kingrey, who is headed to Northeast in Nebraska to play baseball, concluded his four-year career by hitting .392 this past season with 17 extra-base hits, 29 RBI and 59 runs scored, which ranked fifth in the state. He stole 25 bases and had a .974 fielding percentage.
Over the past four summers, Kingrey played in 141 games for the Dodgers, recording 133 runs scored with 101 hits, 65 RBI, 44 steals and 37 extra-base hits. Over the past two seasons, he had 103 runs scored in 81 games with 80 hits.
“Being named all-state just shows that dedication pays off,” Kingrey said. “I also couldn’t have done it without my amazing support system. My dad taught me everything I know, along with the Fort Dodge coaching staff, especially Coach (Connor) McLeod, who stayed after or came in early any day I asked.”
Pederson and Kingrey, who were both selected first team all-Iowa Alliance Conference, played together one final time, as they were selected for the recent Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Series of games held in Ankeny and Urbandale.
