Strong day for FD golfers

MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge boys golf team tied their 18-hole best for the second time in over 12 years.

Last season, the Dodgers shot a 327 at Indianola — their low mark in nearly a decade.

On Friday, the Dodgers also carded a 327 to place fourth at the Dick Garth Invitational in Mason City.

“It was a great day,” said Fort Dodge head coach Nick Vinson. “It’s only the second 18-hole meet of the season and we tied what we shot at the end of last year.”

Davis Underberg fired a 79 to place sixth and Mason Frevert was seventh with an 80. Trace Rial (83) gave the Dodgers three in the Top-10, placing ninth with an 85.

“Davis played really well,” Vinson said. “Mason and Trace had good days, too.

“It’s weird because we shot well, but we all felt like we left some strokes out there.”

Jaxson Dencklau (85) was 15th. Gavin Davis (97) and Camden Sassman (101) also competed.

The Dodgers were fourth in the team standings. Mason City (311) was the winner, followed by Waterloo West (317) and Marshalltown (319).

Waterloo East (433) was fifth.

The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday when they host the 15-team Fort Dodge Invitational.

Starting at $4.94/week.
