Dodgers lose to ranked Ames

AMES — The Fort Dodge girls tennis team ran into perennial state contender Ames here Thursday afternoon on the courts.

The Little Cyclones scored five of six singles matches to win the dual, 10-1.

Picking up the lone win for the Dodgers was Evah Nostrom, as she topped Cora Hatfield at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-4.

“Evah played a really strong, really smart match,” FDSH head coach Julie Astor said. “Ames has some talented players like they always do and I think they did a nice job of finding our weakness and taking advantage of it.

“They are quick and make some very good shot selections, but we need to recognize what the pattern is and adjust.”

Manuela Rodriguez and Mia Carpenter lost at No. 1 doubles, dropping a close first set, 7-5.

“Manuela and Mia had an extremely great match,” Astor said. “Right now, I just think some of the girls are doubting their ability and they need to just relax and play.”

Fort Dodge returns home on Tuesday to host Des Moines Hoover for Senior Night. The Dodgers will honor Madge Hensley and Rodriguez.

Starting at $4.94/week.
