Wayne will play for 1A glory

Wayne was more than ready in its Class 1A state semifinal matchup with Riverside on Wednesday at Rogers Sports Complex.

The top-seeded Lady Falcons plated four runs right out of the gate and three more in the third to wipe out Riverside, 7-3, and reach the championship round.

Izzie Moore went 2-for-2 with a deep home run and three RBI for Wayne (27-2 overall), which will now face No. 2 Clarksville for the 1A title in a rematch of the 2023 third-place game. The Indians ousted St. Edmond last night, 11-3.

The Lady Falcons were upset as the No. 2 seed here a year ago. They’ve returned with a vengeance, prevailing 7-4 in their opener on Tuesday and virtually repeating the feat last night.

Allie Jo Fortune had two hits and drove in a pair in the victory. Ava Whitney was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Moore was also the pitcher of record, going the distance with seven strikeouts to improve to a perfect 21-0 this season.

Sydney Somers was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Riverside, which will take on the Gaels in the third-place tilt on Friday at 6 p.m. Adaline Martens recorded two hits, including a double.

Wayne has been a Fort Dodge mainstay, reaching Rogers Park this summer for the sixth time in seven years. The Lady Falcons’ last title-game appearance, though, came in 2010.

Only Clarksville (30-4) is standing in their way. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
