Regional golf tourney tees off
Ideal conditions are expected to greet the field for the 45th annual Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota regional golf tournament, which tees off Saturday at both Lakeside and the Fort Dodge Country Club.
Nearly 100 players will be chasing titles in nine different divisions between the men and women. Defending champions Eddie Doyle (men’s open), Kevin Roberts (men’s senior) and Craig Patterson (men’s super senior) are entered as of Friday, along with the 2024 women’s two-player best shot winners Roxanne Kuhlman and Dianne Krebs.
A number of other former champs and perennial contenders – Austin Morrow, Ryan Reeder, Cole Jaeschke, Cody Jaeschke, Kole Petersen and Brad Baade, to name a few – will be in the hunt to dethrone Doyle. On the senior side, there are also plenty of talented players ready to contend again, including Randy Stults, Phil Ruth, Jim Dalton, Kevin Conrad, Steve Schmidt, Rick Pingel and a host of others.
Kuhlman, Krebs, Samantha Kuhn, Kathy Fortune, Peg Christensen, Janelle Groteluschen, Brenda Hebert and Melanie Patterson are in action on the women’s side.
There will be Open, Senior (age 50-59), Super Senior (60-69) and Legends (70 and older) stroke-play competitions, as well as the second annual two-player women’s best shot event. Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded in each division.
The men have shotgun start assignments of 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Lakeside. Times will be reversed for the field on Sunday at the Country Club. The championship nine will start at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the FDCC.
Women’s tee times begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the FDCC. They will play at Lakeside on Sunday.
There will be $100 winners at all par-3s for both courses during Saturday’s action in the Full Swing Financial Planning closest to the pin contest.
Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota is in its 20th year of sponsoring this event, which The Messenger took over in 1980.
This year, players from nine counties – Webster, Humboldt, Calhoun, Pocahontas, Hamilton, Wright, Greene, Story and Boone – are eligible to participate.
The weather is expected to be pleasant both days, with temperatures in the low- to mid-80s and winds at 10-15 miles per hour. No precipitation is expected.
Lakeside is a par 36-36-72 layout. The FDCC is a 35-36-71.
