WATERLOO — The eighth-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge softball team took care of business here on Wednesday, sweeping Waterloo East.

Scores were 14-0 in four innings and 16-0 in four.

With the Iowa Alliance North Division sweep, the Dodgers finished as co-champions alongside No. 11 (5A) Ames. This is the second piece of the division title in three years, as they won it outright in 2023.

“These girls have worked so hard to improve each and every single day,” FDSH head coach Andi Adams said. “We always put an emphasis on winning the league title to start in terms of our goals at the beginning of the season, so this was important to check off.

“Now, we start to focus in on our next goal, which is qualifying for state.”

In the opener, Lucy Porter recorded all 12 outs by strikeout, issuing just one walk in a no-hitter. The senior was backed by six runs in the first and four in the second. She also had one immaculate inning, with three strikeouts on nine pitches.

Cadence Touney delivered a home run, driving in two while scoring twice for the Dodgers (25-11 overall, 14-2 in the Iowa Alliance North). Fellow senior Ashlyn Wills had a triple with two runs scored and an RBI.

Hope Alstott scored three runs and stole four bases, Maeleena Meyer had two runs, three steals and an RBI, and Macy Wills was 2-for-3 with two RBI — including a double.

Fort Dodge scored in all four innings of the nightcap, including another six-run first. Ellie Doster had two triples, and Meah McCaleb and Alstott each recorded one. McCaleb and Touney both added doubles.

“It feels like we are getting all the pieces put into place in terms of our lineup,” Adams said. “And the exciting part is, I don’t think we’ve put together a complete game 1-through-9 yet.”

Macy Wills was 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored, Doster collected three hits and drove in two, McCaleb had two hits and plated two, and Alstott was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two more steals.

Aubrey Alstott, Touney and Ashlyn Wills each had two hits, as Wills also swiped a pair of bases. Alstott allowed just one hit and struck out two on 43 pitches with 35 strikes called.

The Dodgers are off until Tuesday when they host No. 13 (5A) Waukee.

Starting at $4.94/week.
