The St. Edmond softball team has been on a run the past four seasons.
The Gaels have made three straight tournaments and finished fourth in Class 1A for two straight seasons.
Three St. Edmond players recently reaped the benefits of a strong 2025 season.
St. Edmond seniors Mariah Myers and Lauren Gibb were picked for the first team on the Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-State team.
Junior Faith Shirbroun, who will play softball at Keiser University in Florida, was a second team selection. Shirbroun was a third team pick as a freshman.
“Mariah, Lauren, Faith and Hadley and Ansley (Oswald) all took charge of practice and worked hard, all while having fun,” said assistant coach Bill Myers. “Those girls worked really hard in the off season.”
This is Myers third time on the first team, garnering honors last season with the Gaels and 2022 as a Dodger. She was a third team pick as an eighth-grader for Fort Dodge in 2021.
Myers, who is headed to Iowa, had a monster senior season. The future Hawkeye was a menace on the bases, leading the state in on base percentage at .799.
She was second in slugging percentage at 1.360 (1A) and second in total bases (1A).
She walked 61 times and hit at a .627 clip with 47 base knocks. She blasted 12 home runs and drove in 38 runs.
“She stayed up beat (when she was walking all the time),” Myers. “We talked about it every time she went up there, she had to take the approach of getting pitched to every at bat.”
She stole 44 bases, which was third in 1A. She led the class in runs (58).
In her four seasons, two with the Gaels and two with the Dodgers, she blasted 42 home runs, scored 153 runs and had 205 hits. She drove in 168 runs in four seasons and swiped 68 bases.
“A few years back, you would look at Mariah and her bat and say she had to be in the field somewhere,” Myers said. “She put in a huge amount of extra work on her glove and it’s something that helped develop her soft hands.
“Her goal was to have a throw that was 70 miles an hour before college and at the Iowa camp, she was clocked at 68. She spent a lot of time at Secor working out and that helped with arm strength and she has developed.”
Gibb was another hit leader for the Gaels, driving in 51 runs behind Myers, who led the state in walks. She was third in hits (60) and second in triples (six). She hit .545 with 34 stolen bases.
Gibb, who will play collegiately at Iowa Central, has 175 runs in her career, with 206 hits, 137 RBI and 155 stolen bases.
“Lauren is one of the best center fielders I’ve seen and I’m glad she is coming to Iowa Central,” said Myers, who is also a Triton assistant coach. “I think her tennis and other sports have helped develop her.
“She took a lot of pride hitting behind Mariah when they would walk her. She would yell at the other dugout how that was the wrong decision. She would not roll over and wanted them to pay for their mistake.”
At third base, Shirbroun scored 53 runs and had 55 hits. She blasted six home runs and drove in 34 runs. She hit .451 at the plate and stole 37 bases.
Heading into her senior season, Shirbroun has 169 runs, 158 hits, 24 home runs and 98 stolen bases. She has stolen 147 bases.
“Faith and Mariah have worked together a lot,” Myers said. “They’ve worked on the glove and the bat and Faith has developed really quick hands.
“She hammered the ball this season. All three of these girls were cerebral on the bases.”
