Lauren Gibb made an immediate impact in her return to the lineup for the fourth-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond softball team here Monday night.

Gibb, who missed two games last week while competing at state tennis, recorded a triple in her first at-bat back inside Rogers Park, sparking the Gaels to an 11-2 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden in five innings.

With the win, St. Edmond (4-2 overall, 2-0 in North Central Conference) has now secured 20 consecutive league victories.

Gibb, who ended up placing fourth overall at tennis, was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, adding a double in her second plate appearance.

“Obviously, it helps having (Gibb) back,” SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun said. “We’re getting closer to having all the pieces in play. She provides a big bat in the No. 3 hole and does a great job driving in runs.”

Ansley Oswald, a senior like Gibb, drove in two while Myrah Lemon, who was inserted into the lineup due to an injury to Hadley Oswald last week, remained hot with two hits and an RBI.

Mariah Myers scored three times and was 2-for-2 while Ella Vandi stole a pair of bases.

“It’s like I’ve said all season long,” Shirbroun said. “We’re a work-in-progress and we will be for the extended future. It’s going to be ugly at times but if we can continue to hit the ball like this, we’ll figure it out.”

The Gaels jumped on the board with a four-spot in the first after the Cadets had taken a 1-0 lead. St. Edmond added three runs in the second, with the key hit being a two-RBI double by Gibb.

Another four-run inning followed in the fourth, as Breckyn Ulrich struck out six over two innings of work.

Toryn Helle, who had an RBI at the plate, added three strikeouts in two innings while Rihanna Myers struck out one in her lone inning inside the circle.

For Iowa Falls-Alden, Cidni Phipps had a home run, finishing 2-for-3, while Alivia Tupper had an RBI-double.

St. Edmond is set to host Southeast Valley back here on Tuesday night.
