Gaels swept by IF-A

The St. Edmond baseball team was in action here Wednesday night, making up a rescheduled North Central Conference doubleheader with Iowa Falls-Alden at Rogers Park.

The Cadets swept the two games, 7-1 and 4-0.

Grant Galles had two hits with Kade Schlegel and Blake Bartlett each recording one. Galles and Garrett Royster both stole bases as Thomas Ehn scored the lone run.

Bartlett had six strikeouts on the mound and Galles three.

“We pitched well in both games,” SEHS head coach Mike Szalat said. “We booted the ball around too much in the opener but we cleaned up our defense in the second.

“I really like this group and feel like we still have a chance to put it together.”

In the nightcap, Galles, Jack McElroy and Maddox Shirbroun had hits, as Shirbroun struck out four and Galles two on the mound. Quintin Jaeschke and Galles each stole a base.

“Grant has really stepped up to help our pitching,” Szalat said. “And both Blake and Maddox threw the ball very well.”

The game was scoreless through four before Iowa Falls-Alden (7-8, 5-5) put up two in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

St. Edmond hosts Eagle Grove on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
