Gaels lose tight contest

CLEAR LAKE — St. Edmond couldn’t hang on to a lead as Clear Lake rallied for a walk-off win on Monday night.

The seventh-ranked Gaels (9-3 overall, 4-1 North Central Conference) suffered their first league loss, dropping a 6-5 game to Clear Lake (9-3, 5-0), which stayed unbeaten.

St. Edmond scored one run in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead, but the Lions scored three in the bottom half of the frame for the win.

The Gaels had 13 hits, while the Lions had 11 hits. St. Edmond had a 4-3 lead after the fifth inning.

Lauren Gibb was 3-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Sophia Schlienz, Ansley Oswald and Toryn Helle had two hits each for the Gaels. Jade Rock had a double and drove in a run. Schlienz and Oswald also drove in runs.

For Clear Lake, who ended St. Edmond’s six-game win streak, Taylor Schwenn was 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Makyla Johnson and Finlee Jeppeson had two hits each. Madi Ott had a double.

Johnson drove in two runs, while Alivia Paine, Alania Hartl, Jeppesen and Ott also drove in runs.

St. Edmond is back in action on Wednesday when they host Algona at Rogers Park.
