Gaels drop a pair at CYO baseball tourney
LE MARS — The St. Edmond baseball team dropped a pair of games here Saturday at the CYO Tournament.
The Gaels fell to Carroll Kuemper, 12-2 in six innings, and host Le Mars Gehlen, 11-2.
In the opener, St. Edmond hung tough with the Knights, as they allowed three in the second and one in the fifth, before seeing eight runs come across to open the floodgates in the sixth. Grant Galles had two hits — including a double — while scoring a run as well. Blake Bartlett and Julian Blanco each drove in a run.
Ethan Swisher scored for St. Edmond. Quintin Jaeschke, Jacob Nieland and Blanco all recorded a hit.
Nieland had a hit and an RBI vs. Gehlen, while Koleman Hanson scored a run with a hit and Swisher scored after a walk. Garrett Royster also picked up a base hit.
For his efforts, Galles was selected to the all-CYO tournament team.
St. Edmond heads to Clear Lake on Monday for a North Central Conference doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
