Fort Dodge baseball team takes down DM East, 8-5

The Fort Dodge baseball team kicked off the week with an 8-5 victory here Monday evening over Des Moines East.

Game two of the doubleheader at Ed McNeil Field was postponed after heavy rain and thunder developed over the area.

Both Tanner Peterson and Kolton Schiltz went deep, as Schiltz finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored. Tru McBride added two RBI, Rylan Kingrey scored twice, while both Royce Pederson and Hayden Porter drove in a run.

Peterson also got the start on the mound, going three with four strikeouts to improve to 4-1 on the year. Brayden Reimers recorded four outs with three strikeouts and Cal Pederson picked up three strikeouts in relief.

Fort Dodge (13-8 overall) jumped right on the Scarlets (4-13), scoring twice in the first. They added a run in the second and two in both the third and fourth innings. But Des Moines East didn’t go quietly, scoring three runs in the last two.

The Scarlets had the bases loaded after cutting the deficit to three in the seventh when freshman Reggie Pederson got the 21st out of the game to end it.

Up next for the Dodgers will be a single varsity game against Humboldt (14-4) back here at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
