MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge baseball team continued to own Marshalltown in a series that dates back generations, scoring a dominating doubleheader sweep here Wednesday night.

Scores were 24-3 and 16-1, with both games ending after four innings.

The Dodgers, who have won 45 of the 58 games played between the two since 2009, have now won eight in a row and 18 of 19 since 2020. Over the last eight, they have scored double digits six times.

“We came out and put the ball in play with good, hard contact,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “We played around with the lineup and had success with it in both games.”

Royce Pederson drove in five with three hits and two runs scored in the opener while Reggie Pederson plated three runs, scored twice and struck out four to earn the win for Fort Dodge (8-3 overall, 3-1 in Iowa Alliance Conference).

Tru McBride scored four times and drove in a run as Rylan Kingrey, Cal Pederson and Jaxson Dencklau each had two hits. Kolton Schiltz scored twice, drove in two and stole two bases, Will McElroy, Pederson and Dencklau each scored two runs and Kingrey had three runs scored, an RBI and two steals.

McElroy did it at the plate and on the mound in the nightcap, going 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs scored and seven strikeouts over four innings of work.

“Will was outstanding,” Utley said. “Kolton really came up big after we moved him to the No. 2 spot behind Kingrey, who had a strong night getting on base.

“We took advantage of stringing hits together and put together some big innings.”

Schiltz was 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, Kingrey scored three times, Cal Pederson had two runs and Bo Marsh stole two bases.

Fort Dodge hosts Sioux City East at 1 p.m. and Sioux City West at 4 p.m. on Friday.
