Dodgers salvage road split
DES MOINES — After scoring only three runs in opening game loss, the Fort Dodge baseball team exploded for 12 to salvage a split with Des Moines Roosevelt.
The Dodgers (10-7 overall) suffered a 6-3 loss in the first game, but bounced back for a 12-6 win over the Roughriders (8-11) in the finale.
“In the first game we did a nice job of getting runners in scoring position, but we couldn’t bring them in,” said Fort Dodge head coach Blake Utley. “Landen (Grandors) did a nice job of pitching, we just couldn’t get the runs in.”
Fort Dodge had eight hits in the second game, led by two hits each from Rylan Kingrey and Reggie Pederson.
“In the second game, it was the opposite,” Utley said. “We got runners in scoring position and we brought them in.
“We did a nice job of running the bases with 11 stolen bases. Our guys were on the same page and saw some things, so it wasn’t hard for us to call.”
Jaxson Dencklau drove in two runs, while Kingrey, Kolton Schiltz, Pederson, Tru McBride and Royce Pederson also drove in runs.
The Dodgers stole 11 bases as Kingrey had four swipes. Royce Pederson and Jase Nekvinda had stolen bases each.
Cal Pederson picked up the win, going five innings. He allowed four hits and struck out three. McBride got the start and the two combined for one earned run.
