Area athletes garner all-state track and field honors

A number of local and area high school track and field athletes were recently recognized by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches with all-state honors.
St. Edmond head girls track and field coach CJ Tracy was among those nominated, landing the Class 1A coach of the year honor.
Anna Lursen of St. Edmond made the 1A all-state list in the 400-meter run, 800-meter run and 400-meter hurdles. Teammate Mariah Myers was named for her efforts in both the shot put and discus.
Manson Northwest Webster’s Matt Condon in the high jump, Emmetsburg’s Rachel Schany in the high jump, and Algona’s Max Nevitt in the shot put were named to the elite all-state squads.
Schany, of Emmetsburg, made the 2A team in the 400, 800, high jump and long jump, as did Manson Northwest Webster’s Alyssa Richman in the 1,500 and 3,000 in 2A.
Tyra Schupbach of West Bend-Mallard was recognized in the 1A for the 3,000.
MaKayla Beisel of Clarion-Goldfield/Dows was honored in the 2A 400 hurdles, Pocahontas Area’s Halee Hauswirth the 2A shot put and Tristin Gorden of South Central Calhoun in the 2A discus.
The Newell-Fonda 4×200 of Ava Vie, Kinzee Hinders, Ellie Sievers and Anna Mercer were honored in 1A.
Condon was named all-state in the 2A 400 hurdles, high jump and long jump.
Algona’s Evan Allie, the distance medley relay of Tate Garman, Tyler Bradley, Allie and Gavin Weber, and Nevitt in the shot put were named in 3A.
Humboldt’s Tyler Carlson (3A) and Emmetsburg’s Byron Maina (2A) earned high jump accolades.
