Sports Park Raceway opener next on track

Another season of nonstop action is right around the corner at Sports Park Raceway, with the 2025 opener scheduled for this Saturday night.

The Iron Man USRA Stock Cars are first on the track, with USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Modifieds, USRA Hobby Stocks and 4.6 Crown Victorias taking center stage. Pits open at 5 p.m., and grandstands at 6. Hot laps begin at 7 p.m., and racing starts at 7:15.

“We’re really looking forward to getting started,” Sports Park Raceway owner and operator Jeff Frevert said. “We’ve been working hard preparing things for the last two months. We’ve moved dirt, cleaned up some of the infrastructure and have the place ready to go. It’s looking great, and so is the track.

“In addition, we have a number of other events scheduled throughout the next five months. It’s going to be a busy year with a lot of different (forms of) local entertainment.”

USRA races are slated for May 3 and 24, June 14, July 4-5, July 19, Aug. 9 and 30, and Sept. 6. ATV, UTV and SXS competitors are on the docket May 9 and 10 and July 25-27. The Iowa Moto Series takes over Aug. 23 and 24, and Mud Truck races are Sept. 13.

For Saturday, grandstand admission is $12 for adults and $10 for juniors (age 7-13), seniors and military members. Children ages 6 and under are free.

Pit passes for anyone age 14 and older are $35. For 13 and under, the price is $20.

This week’s KS Engineering Iron Man Stock Cars Driven By Terminator Chassis runs on Friday in Fairmont, Minn.; Saturday in Fort Dodge; and Sunday in Mason City.

“We had a really good turnout last weekend for the practice session, so we’re hoping for a solid car count all season long,” said Frevert, who is in his fourth year at the helm. “We’re anticipating approximately 45 stock cars racing here (Saturday for the opener), and they come from across the country.”

Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota, Marsh Concrete, White Transfer, Pickett Salvage, Culver’s, Matt’s Tire Service, United Plant Services, Arnold Motor Supply, Curt Bacon Body Shop, Kemna Auto of Fort Dodge, Beisser Lumber and Hicklin Powersports are main race title sponsors. Kemna Auto Night at the Races will be on the Fourth of July.

The Dicky Marsh Memorial is scheduled for Aug. 9. The season championship will be Sept. 6.

Last year’s season-long winners included Myles Michehl of Fort Dodge (Marsh Concrete USRA Stock Cars), Tyler Crimmins of Fort Dodge (Matt’s Tire Service USRA Tuners), Jeremy Crimmins of Fort Dodge (Pickett Salvage USRA Hobby Stocks), Nick Hogan of Fort Dodge (Crown Vic), Ty Griffith of Webster City (White Transfer and Storage USRA B-Mods), Jerid Ratzke of Webster City (Dirt Limited Late Models), Devon Halvick of Waterloo (United Plant Services USRA Modifieds) and Michehl (Dirt Pro Trucks).

Frevert is also looking forward to the XR Stock Car Rampage event on Aug. 26 and 27. The overall winner of the nationally-televised competition nets $100,000.

Sports Park Raceway is located just under a mile north of U.S. 20 on U.S. 169, then half a mile east on 230th in Fort Dodge.
