No. 8 Gaels cap perfect regular season

CARROLL — The eighth-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond girls tennis team knocked off No. 2 Carroll Kuemper in a battle of unbeatens here on Friday, 6-3.

Lauren Gibb, Ava Andrew, Ava Underberg and Abby Huss scored wins in singles, as the doubles teams of Gibb and Payton Bradley, along with Underberg and Chloe Palmer, secured the dual for the Gaels (14-0 overall).

“This was an incredible win and a wonderful way to complete the regular season,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “Kuemper is a strong program, but our girls had the right attitude coming in that they wanted to get the win.

“We won some close matches and lost a couple close ones, but we showed plenty of fight and spirit to get the victory.”

Carroll Kuemper (8-1) had won each of the last four meetings, dropping just three matches total during that time. The Knights had lost just six matches in eight duals prior, with three of those coming to No. 7 Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

St. Edmond now prepares for action in Spencer on Monday for a Class 1A individual regional tournament before returning home to host team regionals on Friday, May 16.

Starting at $2.99/week.
