BOONE — Iowa Central’s Ivanna Becerra-Diaz took over sole possession of the leaderboard here Wednesday at the NJCAA Div. II National Championship.

Behind Becerra-Diaz, the Triton women remain in third place overall behind only Shelton State and Mesa.

Becerra-Diaz followed up her 74 on Tuesday with a round of 73 at Cedar Pointe Golf Course. She holds a four-shot lead over Ashley Nelson from Snead State with 36 holes left.

Triton Olivia Eckert is tied for 12th, Brooklyn Backoff is tied for 40th and Jenna Kramer is tied for 45th.

“Ivanna was really good Wednesday,” ICCC head coach Kris Graewin said. “She had the low round of the day and did a great job bouncing back from a double-bogey.”

Becerra-Diaz carded three birdies to go along with 12 pars, giving her five birdies for the week. She had a pair of 3s on No. 8 and No. 10 to go along with a two on the par-3 No. 15.

Eckert posted two birdies on her round and Backoff had one.

“It was another great day for us,” Graewin said. “The ladies battled some early struggles and were able to put together a solid team score.

“We’re looking forward to competing the rest of the week.”

Three other ICCAC schools are in the field, as DMACC is seventh, NIACC is ninth and Iowa Lakes is 11th.

Players hit the course again here beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Starting at $2.99/week.
