After missing out on hosting the Dodger Relays earlier this year due to inclement weather, the Fort Dodge girls track and field team was finally able to host a meet in the the Iowa Alliance Conference Championships on a perfect evening here Tuesday.
Ames finished with 179 points to take top honors, followed by Des Moines Roosevelt, Ottumwa, Mason City and Des Moines East rounding out the Top-5. The Dodgers were seventh overall, ahead of Marshalltown, Waterloo East, Des Moines Lincoln and Des Moines North.
“We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to host the conference meet and almost make it like our own Dodger Relays,” FDSH head coach Todd Constable said. “Our kids took advantage of it, with many of them setting PRs.
“I feel like we took a giant step forward and gained a lot of momentum heading into next week.”
Sophomore Ky’Mariana Mosley and the Dodger shuttle hurdle relay quartet each scored runner-up finishes to lead the way. Mosley was second in the discus with a throw of 105-6. The SHR of freshman Adyson Friesth, freshman Charlotte DeJong, junior LJ Maehl and junior Maeleena Meyer crossed home in 1:13.53.
Mosley was also sixth in the shot put.
Junior Ava Wessels added a fifth in the 100-meter run.
In the 3,000, Saiya Noborikawa was sixth. Meyer finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Fort Dodge’s 4×100 and 4×400 relays both took sixth. Aneliese Schurr, Hope Alstott, Ashlyn Wills and Wessels ran the 4×100 while Maehl, Brooklyn Nelson, Rippentrop and Wessels comprised the 4×400.
Nelson was seventh in the 400, with DeJong, Alstott, Wills and Wessels placing seventh in the 4×200.
“Teryn had an awesome night,” Constable said. “We’ve been waiting for her to put it all together and she did. Ava had a great PR in her split of the 4×400.
“It’s just really nice to see us starting to get our times down at this point in the season.”
Emma Estlund, Ainsley Seltz, Reina Lacina and Aileah Geopfert won the junior varsity distance medley for the Dodgers.
The Little Cyclones took advantage of near-perfect conditions to set three new conference records. Elodie Biggs broke the high jump mark, Angelica Attinger earned the 400 hurdles record, and the Ames 4×400 set a new best time.
Delilah Subsin of Ottumwa broke her own conference records in both the shot put and discus events. Des Moines Roosevelt’s Meredith Gentry, who won the 400, 800 and 1,500, set new records in the 800 and 1,500, as did Isabel Spradling of Roosevelt in the 3,000.
Fort Dodge will now prepare for May 15 and a Class 4A state qualifying meet hosted by Mason City.
