Fort Dodge prepares for IAC track meets

The Fort Dodge boys and girls track and field teams will get a good look at several state-qualifying meet squads on Tuesday.

The Dodger boys head to Ottumwa for the Iowa Alliance Conference meet. The FDSH girls are hosting the event inside Dodger Stadium.

Both meets begin at 4 p.m.

Joining Fort Dodge will be Ames, Des Moines East, Des Moines Hoover, Des Moines Lincoln, Des Moines North, Des Moines Roosevelt, Marshalltown, Mason City, Ottumwa and Waterloo East.

At the upcoming Class 4A state-qualifying meet in Mason City, Ames, Mason City and Waterloo East will all be in attendance, along with the Dodgers, Cedar Falls, Indianola, Norwalk and Waterloo West.

The Fort Dodge girls are fifth in the latest overall power rankings for the conference behind Ames, Ottumwa, Roosevelt and Marshalltown. The top event for the Dodgers is their shuttle hurdle relay, which is rated third behind freshman Adyson Friesth, freshman Charlotte DeJong, junior LJ Maehl and junior Maeleena Meyer.

Meyer is also ninth in the 100 hurdles and 14th in the 400 hurdles. Friesth is 10th in the 100 hurdles. Maehl 12th in the 400 hurdles.

Freshman Brooklyn Nelson is tied for ninth in the high jump. Both the 4×200 and sprint medley relays are seeded sixth. Junior Aneliese Schuur, sophomore Hope Alstott, senior Ashlyn Wills and Nelson are in the sprint medley, with the 4×2 consisting of Alstott, Wills, DeJong and junior Ava Wessels.

The Dodger boys are seventh in the conference power rankings. Junior Noah Daniel is fourth in the 100, while sophomore Amari McCaleb and junior Dalton Eckley have the seventh-best high jump marks.

The 4×800 relay of sophomore Jayce Point, sophomore Cael Hansen, freshman Avery Bryhne and freshman Joseph Petersen have the fourth-best time this year among IAC competitors.

Ames, Roosevelt and Ottumwa are the top ranked boys squads on paper heading into Tuesday.
