Fort Dodge girls edged by Lincoln

The Fort Dodge girls tennis team dropped a 7-4 decision here Tuesday to Des Moines Lincoln in their regular season finale.

Manuela Rodriguez and Grace Behrens earned wins in singles for the Dodgers. Rodriguez scored a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 spot over Anna George. Behrens topped Samantha Douds at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2.

Rodriguez and Behrens also paired up for the win at No. 1 doubles over George and Brooke White, 7-5, 6-2.

Claire Thompson and Meah McCaleb claimed a straight-set win at No. 4 doubles, 6-3 and 7-6, for the other Fort Dodge point of the dual.

Madge Hensley pushed her singles match at No. 5 to a super-tiebreaker set, falling 10-7.

Prior to the start, Fort Dodge honored its seniors: Behrens, Emily Chichester, Kaitlyn Folsom, Lacey Larson, Janelle Derrig, McCaleb, Alexa McHone, Thompson and Edyn Witham.

“All of our seniors have been hard workers who have improved so much,” FDSH head coach Julie Astor said. “They always come with a smile on their face ready to get better.

“We were missing a couple of players, but the girls that moved into those new roles stepped up and played well.”

The Dodgers now prepare for the postseason, as they head to Ames for a Class 2A individual regional tournament on May 12.
