Five silvers for St. Edmond boys

HAMPTON — The St. Edmond boys track team came away with five runner-up finishes at the Jim Basye Coed Relays here on Friday.

“It was a cold night,” said St. Edmond head coach Donn Larson. “The guys ran great with a lot of determination.”

Aaron Hindt picked up silver in both the 100-meter dash (11.24) and the 200-meter dash (22.79).

Anthony Valles was second in the 800 (2:08.77).

The 4×400 was a runner-up in a tight relay with Charles City. The Comets crossed the finish line in 3:37.50, while the Gaels were right behind in 3:37.64.

Running for St. Edmond was Levi Odor-Westrum, Grant Galles, Valles and Hindt.

The quartet of Odor-Westrum, Matthew Crimmins, Liam Shannon and Valles crossed the tape in 8:48.53 to place second in the 4×800.

The distance medley team of Galles, Odor-Westrum, Hindt and Valles was third in 3:54.73.

Odor-Westrum was fourth in the 800 (2:11.74) and Shannon was fourth in the 3,200 (10:45.17).

“We were close to finishing in fifth,” Larson said. “Anthony, Aaron, Grant, Levi, Liam, and Matthew all had strong nights.

“A few items to polish up on yet, but we’re happy.”

The Gaels are back in action on Monday when they run at the Denver HS Co-Ed Cyclone relays.
