The Fort Dodge girls soccer team honored their seniors on Friday night, and the Dodgers played to a 3-3 tie with East Sac County in front of a packed home house.

The Dodgers (1-7-1 overall) had a 3-1 lead in the second half before the Raiders (3-7-3) scored twice and ultimately forced the draw.

“We got behind 1-0, but this team doesn’t lose their fight,” said FDSH head coach G Myers. “Coaching these girls, I’ve seen them never give up and keep going. We did that on Thursday against (ranked) Des Moines Roosevelt. They came in thinking they were going to 10-0 us and we fought to make sure that didn’t happen (in an 8-1 setback).”

East Sac County got on the board first, but the Dodgers tied the contest on freshman Laila Grantham’s first career goal.

The Dodgers went into halftime with a 2-1 advantage on a goal from sophomore Addie Lentsch, who would give the Dodgers a 3-1 edge with her second goal of the evening.

“For Addie, this season has been so much work,” Myers said. “Coming in off of her surgery (during baskebtall season) was mentally tough, just for her to be able to push through that while having the goal of not missing games.

“She has adjusted her game, worked on her footwork and is using her teammates better.”

East Sac County tacked on two goals in the second half from Chloe Bieret.

The Dodgers honored five seniors: Ava Sells, Jase Madison, Tessa Carlson, Paige Lloyd, Kenia Suriano Zepeda and Tristen Holst.

“They are such a great group. I will definitely miss their leadership,” Myers said. “Ava checks in and keeps everything going and organized. Paige, Ava, Jase, Kenia and Tessa are four-year starters and have been great for us. Tristen tried to do both track and soccer, and then came back to soccer and it has been great to have her.

“This group leads by example well.”

Sells and Lloyd are defenders, while Madison, Suranio Zepeda, Carlson and Holst played offense for the Dodgers.
