Dodgers to honor Miller on Memorial Day in opener

The Fort Dodge softball team’s season opener on Memorial Day will honor the memory of the late Aaron Miller.

Miller, who was a Dodger assistant for nine years, died in a car accident in early January. He was also a beloved teacher and, most recently, assistant principal at Fort Dodge Middle School.

Miller wore many hats in the district, helping athletes in basketball, baseball, football, softball and other sports and activities.

“We are all still adjusting to not having him around,” said FDSH softball coach Andi Adams. “He meant so much to us. There hasn’t been a practice that goes by that we don’t think about him.”

The Dodgers will face Sioux City North at Rogers Park for their season opener.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m. in varsity action. The junior varsity 2 (freshman) squad will start things off at 4 p.m., with JV1 at 5:30 p.m.

The theme of the team this year is “We Will for A-Mill,” and the mantra will hold true on Monday night when the family of Aaron Miller will throw at the first pitch.

“A-Mill” wristbands will be handed out for all attendees as well.

“Aaron’s passing has really brought these girls together. They were close before, but losing someone important to you creates an even stronger bond.

“He was my guy. He was my right-hand man. We all miss him dearly.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
