Daniel competes in sprint events

DES MOINES — Noah Daniel added to his state track and field resume here Thursday, competing for the second consecutive season in the Class 4A 100- and 200-meter races.
Daniel, the lone Fort Dodge qualifier, placed 15th in the 100 prelims and was 12th in the 200 prelims inside Drake Stadium. The junior clocked a time of 11.00 in the 100 and 22.13 in the 200.
The cut-off time to make the 100 finals was 10.80, as Tyler Sickerson of Ankeny posted the quickest in 10.57. For the 200, the cut-off was 21.94, as Ankeny’s Logan Fairchild led the field at 21.52.
Daniel placed fifth in the third heat of the 100 behind qualifiers Deztin McMurrin of Waterloo West and Vincent Peterson of Johnston. He was third in the third heat of the 200 behind Ankeny Centennial’s Braeden Jackson and Sickerson who both advanced.
Only three other juniors finished with better times than Daniel in the 200, and four juniors were ahead of him in the 100.
Last year, Daniel finished 17th in the 100 in a time of 11.06 and was 19th in the 200 in 22.68.
