SIX FOR GOLD

POCAHONTAS — The St. Edmond girls track and field team kicked off the week with action here Tuesday evening with six first-place finishes.

Seniors Josie Harvey and Mariah Myers each scored two golds, with Harvey also running on the winning sprint medley relay. Anna Lursen added a victory in the 400 hurdles.

Harvey was first in the Class B 100-meter dash in 13.65 and did the same in the 100 hurdles, going 16.94. Myers, meanwhile, swept the discus (93-0) and shot put (38-4).

Lursen won the hurdles in 1:07.36 and ran with Harvey on the sprint medley relay with Faith Shirbroun and Brianna Saathoff. That quartet clocked a time of 1:54.03, as the Gaels placed third overall.

The St. Edmond 4×200 relay of McKenna Kvale, Ava Bradley, Myrah Lemon and Saathoff took second with Lemon adding a third in the long jump. Charlie Stucky was third in the shot put along with the distance medley relay of Saathoff, Bradley, Naomi Valles and Alex Leiting.

“We did a lot of good things,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “There are a lot of positives we can take away from this meet. These girls are hard workers and it is showing at each and every meet.

“We will continue to work to improve so we are ready for May 15. We saw a couple of teams we will see at the state qualifying meet so it’s good to have an idea of where we are.”

Host Pocahontas Area had Halee Hauswirth in the shot put place first alongside the shuttle hurdle, 4×200 and 4×100 relays.

Newell-Fonda’s Ellie Sievers won the long jump and 400, Lindsey Wolf the high jump, Kinzee Hinders the 200, Mareni Brabec the 1,500 and the distance medley, 4×100 and 4×400 relays to claim the team crown.

In A, Manson Northwest Webster’s Kyla Egli won the long jump and the 100 hurdles, Addison McCullough claimed the high jump and Ava Moline the discus.

Emmetsburg’s Rachel Schany was the winner in the 400 and 200 while Humboldt’s Macey Rodgers (3,000) and Brynn Malo (800) placed first.

Myers and Lursen will compete later this week at the Drake Relays along with running Thursday at the Dodger Relays.

Starting at $2.99/week.
