No. 14 Iowa Central tops Iowa Western in extras

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The 14th-ranked Iowa Central baseball team used some clutch hitting to secure an extra-inning victory over Iowa Western here Tuesday afternoon.

The Tritons plated the winning run in the top of the 11th, holding the Reivers off for an 8-7 victory.

Iowa Central (29-6 overall, 13-2 in ICCAC) went up 6-1 in the seventh behind a four-run frame, but Iowa Western (23-14, 11-4) battled back. They would tie it up at 7-all after the Tritons took a 7-3 lead in the top of the ninth.

Jake Busson and Cooper Nicholson each hit home runs, as Busson drove in three and scored twice. Isaiah Scott had two hits and Busson recorded the final five outs.

Chris McCormack made the start, throwing the first eight innings with seven strikeouts and just two earned runs allowed on six hits.

Since the calendar flipped to April, Iowa Central is a perfect 7-0, sweeping Iowa Lakes and Marshalltown for the other six wins this month. They will put the win streak on the line at Southwestern Thursday before returning home for a three-game weekend series vs. North Iowa Area.

Starting at $2.99/week.
