Gaels will begin ’25 football slate on the road at Glidden

The 2025 football schedule for St. Edmond will feature a handful of familiar faces, highlighted by the last two eight-player state champions.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association released schedules for all teams on Monday. These will be used for the next two seasons and are based on districts and groupings as assigned by the IHSAA.
Up first for Matt Dillon and the Gaels will be a road trip to Glidden-Ralston on Aug. 29, who St. Edmond has played each of the past two seasons. They posted a 26-12 victory over the Wildcats on Senior Night a year ago, securing the first eight-player playoff berth in school history.
The Gaels make their home debut vs. Newell-Fonda followed by back-to-back games with the last two state champions. St. Edmond heads to Remsen St. Mary’s in Week 3 and welcomes long-time rival Bishop Garrigan the next week.
Road trips to Siouxland Christian and Kingsley-Pierson bookend home games vs. GTRA and Harris-Lake Park.
St. Edmond went 5-4 a season ago, losing to Janesville in the opening round of the postseason. They are set to return quarterback Ethan Swisher, who threw for 1,127 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 166 and two scores, along with leading rusher Aaron Hindt and top receiver Grant Galles.
Hindt ran for 764 yards and 12 TDs as a sophomore while Galles caught 31 passes for 481 yards and six scores.
Jakob Koopman anchors the defense after recording 45 tackles with five interceptions. Galles, Koleman Hanson, Hindt, Jacob Nieland, Jack Webster and Thomas Ehn are also scheduled to return, along with Kinnick Henning and Max Webster, who both suffered season-ending injuries.
Galles was also one of the top returners in the state, taking four kickoffs back while averaging 30 yards per return. He had three of those in a win over Baxter, tying the all-time state record.
