Triton women prevail on the road

CRESTON — The Iowa Central women let out a sigh of relief Saturday.

The Tritons (6-17 overall, 1-12 ICCAC) won their first game of the new year, ending a 13-game losing streak.

Iowa Central topped Creston by a final of 61-59.

Three Tritons reached double figures, led by Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Lainey Maehl’s 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. Catherine Clemente recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. She dished out four assists and added three blocks.

Kiara Baptiste contributed nine points and seven boards in the victory.

Iowa Central trailed by seven points at the end of the first quarter, but pulled within three at half and led by a point heading into the final frame.

Sharmaine Tapling had a game-high 32 points for the Spartans (2-21, 1-12).

The Tritons are at DMACC on Wednesday and home on Saturday against Iowa Western.
