Palmer named all-NCC for Gaels
Over the past four years, Morgan Mann of Humboldt and Lauren McLaughlin from Algona have led their girls basketball teams into action night after night.
So, it was only fitting that the two seniors ended their high school hoop careers as unanimous all-North Central Conference selections.
Joining Mann and McLaughlin were Algona’s Hayden Kuhlmann, Humboldt’s Ava Fischer, Hampton-Dumont/CAL’s Jordan Valley and Clear Lake’s Madi Ott.
Kuhlmann, a sophomore, and Valley, a senior, were also unanimous selections.
Chloe Palmer from St. Edmond landed on the third team after helping the Gaels to a Class 1A regional semifinal. Palmer was sixth in the league in scoring with 138 points in 12 games, adding 74 rebounds, 38 assists and 33 steals.
She ranked fourth in steals, fifth in assists and eighth in rebounds.
“I am so grateful that I was selected all-NCC,” Palmer said. “It is really nice to see some of your hard work be recognized by coaches and other teams.
“This is a really tough conference and all of the girls who made it are so deserving of it.”
St. Edmond finished the year with eight wins, tying for the most by the program since the 2016-17 season.
“Chloe has spent a lot of time with a basketball in her hands,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “She has been an important part of our turnaround these past couple of years and we’re excited to see what the next two years hold for her.”
Mann, who led the NCC in scoring and left Humboldt as the school’s career leader in points, has signed with Embry-Riddle University, an NAIA program. McLaughlin, who was seventh in scoring in the conference, has signed with Div. III power Wartburg College.
With Mann and McLaughlin graduating, Fisher, a junior, and Kuhlmann, a sophomore, will be the main cogs for their respective teams next season. Fischer ranked second in the NCC in scoring and tied for fourth in steals while Kuhlmann was first in assists, ninth in scoring and tied for ninth in steals.
Webster City’s Olivia Gallentine, Algona’s Hayden McLaughlin, Hampton-Dumont/CAL’s Lily Hambly and Brooklyn Valley, and Iowa Falls-Alden’s Elody England made the second-team.
Third team selections were Marissa Hedeen of Webster City, Paige Nelson from Humboldt, Casey VanOtterloo of Algona, Addi Dennis from Iowa Falls-Alden and Jacelyn Ainley of Clear Lake.
