CORRECTIONVILLE — CJ Tracy knew it wouldn’t happen over night, but for the first time in 11 seasons, the St. Edmond girls have made it to the third game of the postseason.

The Gaels (8-14 overall) beat River Valley (12-11) 60-48 on Tuesday night.

St. Edmond will now travel to Coon Rapids-Bayard (17-4) on Friday. Tip is set for 7 p.m.

“A lot of it comes down to what they’ve done in the offseason,” Tracy said. “These girls are a huge part of how this program has turned around and are changing the culture.

“They are doing things that haven’t been done.”

It wasn’t easy going for the Gaels as they trailed at the end of the first quarter (11-6) and the third quarter (44-43).

“Early on we were a little flat,” Tracy said. “We didn’t play well in a small part of the game. But our shots started to fall and excitement picked up and the intensity did as well.

“We stopped giving up second chance opportunities and battled. I’m so proud of their effort and it’s great to keep this going.”

St. Edmond amped up the defense in the final eight minutes, out scoring River Valley 17-4.

“Our defense picked up and settled in,” Tracy said. “We made a few adjustments and started switching on them so they didn’t have anyone going in.

“We crashed the boards harder, because when we didn’t we fell behind.”

Josie Harvey just missed on a triple double, scoring 17 points and pulling down nine rebounds.

Chloe Palmer had a solid all around game, with 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Payton Bradley had 16 points. Anna Lursen had five points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Sophia Schlienz checked in with six and Abby Huss added three points.

“The work that they’ve put in has paid off,” Tracy said. “Now we see where this takes us.”
